The Lavender plant is a woody evergreen shrub, covered with oil glands. Lavender has been used since ancient times, and the Romans added lavender to their bath water, hence the name from the Latin lavare, 'to wash'.

The oil is effective in inducing relaxation, which can help manage anxiety as well as insomnia. While these relaxing effects are what lavender oil is best known for, it actually has antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties as well.
