Clean Beauty: The Dirt On The Term 'Clean'

Green Beauty: The Dirt On The Term 'Clean'

We all want the best products for our skin, so clean, green, natural beauty sounds like a clear path. It is not as simple as reading a label and buying into what slogans may dictate, as there are a few things we should all know about green beauty.

OUTDATED REGULATIONS

Did you know that the last time the personal care industry had an update to its regulation was in 1938!! Not to mention the document was only a page long, in short making the industry relatively unregulated by today's standards. Companies are able to use terms such as green, natural, clean without any mandate for them to be backed up.

The ever evolving and sheer creativity of marketing campaigns make it very easy to be mislead by what is actually contained in the product you are using. Thankfully, there is one simple way to decipher between what is green and what is not- read all the ingredients.

At Bathorium, we pride ourselves on producing natural, green and decadent bath products. In our mission to #bringbackthebath the core of our values is rooted in products without anything that could be harmful to your skin. All of our products are formulated without fragrance, any fillers or SLS (see more info in the link below)

Did you know it only 26 seconds for the ingredients in your personal care products to enter your bloodstream? While many studies are ongoing on the effects of certain ingredient and any potential long term effect, we believe that when in doubt, formulate without.

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!

One of the most important thing to know about clean beauty is with regards to some of their ingredients.. the tricky part is that cosmetic companies are not required to disclose ingredients that are considered trade secrets- namely fragrance. Why is this so important? Doesn't fragrance just add a nice little smell to the product? Think again..

This loophole means that any skincare, makeup, or bath product can contain multiple toxic ingredients with no mention of them so long as they are considered part of the fragrance formula (which doesn’t just include scent, but also colour, and experiential elements like how the fragrance sticks to your skin)

Feeling overwhelmed by what to look for, or rather, not look for in your products. Here is quick guide of the biggest red flags to keep an eye out for when you're shopping
